WHEN: Saturday, February 25, 2012 @ 10:00 AM

WHERE: Clague Park -- Same place as the last winter meeting.

Clague Park is about ¾ mile south of I-90 and about 3 miles north of I-480, in Westlake, OH 44145 – at the corner of Clague Rd. and Hilliard Rd. Westlake is about 10 miles west of downtown Cleveland. If navigating by GPS, the park entrance is across from the residence at 1581 Clague Road, Westlake, OH 44145 (just a few feet north)

If you are arriving from the south, using I-480, and depending on your route, you may pass a small park on the west side of Clague Road that is also called Clague Park, but located in North Olmsted, OH. It is about 1 ½ miles north of I-480, and is NOT the correct park. The sign is small, and this park is not visible from the road -- Keep going north about a mile.

The rules of the city state that the keys cannot be picked up until 9:30 AM, so the building will not be open until about 9:45. However, there will be a few of us in the parking lot and ready to open the doors for an on time start. There will be two coffee urns there, but the coffee may not be ready until 10:15 AM – or close to it. If anyone feels especially euphoric and has the urge to do something dramatic for their fellow AMers, (how’s that for B.S.) a few doughnuts, potato chips, etc. would probably put a smile on someone’s face.

By now, everybody is aware these gatherings are VERY informal, with lots of good talk and another chance to meet face to face with the guys we talk with on the AM windows. Of course, there is no charge for this activity, however there will be a “Donation Can” for anybody that is willing to donate a few bucks to help defray the cost of postage, pavilion rent, etc.

If you know anyone interested in vintage radio – Amateur or SWL – please pass the word along.

However as stated before, we would like to make it clear that dealers and profiteers are NOT welcome and will be turned away (Or at least shunned).

September 2011 LE Boatanchor Meeting

It looks as if it was another good meeting in Wickliff Ohio, just east of Cleveland and around the corner from AES. Here is a picture of one of the notables attending the meeting and it looks like he was having a good time! Mike N8ECR, DX60 net controller, was busy telling off color jokes and it looks like everyone enjoyed them.

WHERE: Colby Park in Wickliffe, Ohio -- Yes, another new location this year, about 1/2 mile east of last years place . Still about 15 miles east of downtown Cleveland.

It is VERY easy to get to -- from I-90, exit at Route 84 and go north about 6/10 mile. If coming from I-90, take the second entrance to Colby Park (north entrance)

For GPS users -- use 28730 Ridge Rd., Wickliffe, OH 44092

Joe (W8DOE) had made the arrangements. We will have exclusive use of the pavilion. There is plenty of parking.

There certainly will be lots of room for vintage gear.

By now, everybody is aware that these gatherings are VERY informal, with lots of good talk and another chance to meet face to face with the guys we talk with on the AM windows. Of course, there is no charge for this activity, however there will be a “Donation Can” for anybody that is willing to donate a few bucks to help defray the cost of postage, pavilion rent, etc.

Our list of participants is now over 100, and everybody on the list should get a postcard with directions to this web site. If you know anyone interested in vintage radio – Amateur or SWL – please pass the word along. As in the past, dealers and profiteers are NOT welcome and will be turned away (Or at least shunned).

Great Meeting!

With an attendance of 61 fellow Boatanchor enthusiasts, the early 2011 Boatanchor meeting got the season off to a great start. Ken K8TV had plenty of items for those that attended. It was great news that Jeff W9GY made it all the way in to attend the meeting. Sorry that I missed you Jeff! On the right side of the screen you will find a slide show of pictures from the meeting. They were forwarded to me from Bill K8DBN and there were a couple of others from Dan N8ETQ. Please feel free to click on the slideshow and it will bring up a host of options, the most immediate of which will be larger pictures for you to see!

While listening on 80 meters the other day, I heard a comment about the Boatanchor Web site pictures. The person commenting said that he wished that they contained information that identified those in the photos. It was a good comment and I think that names and calls would be nice.

If you can help identify those in the pictures, please drop me an email. I've labeled some but really would like your assistance in making it complete.

One of our good guys, Duane Scott W3ZG, joined the ranks of SK's on August 27th. He was an AM'er and an avid builder. His estate will be listed as soon as it is cataloged. One item that needs attention, before winter, is the 120 foot tower at his QTH. It is located near Pittsburgh PA and the Ohio/Pennsylvania border. It needs to be removed and for doing so, you may keep it. The tower is Rohn style and has an insulated base (1/4 wave on 160). If you have an interest please call me at 440-967-0654 .. Larry W8ER

What a great day for a meeting of old BoatAnchor Hams! Coulby Park in Wickliffe was the meeting spot and the deals were on the table. A pair of National NC-300's went for $40 each (with matching a matching speaker!). DX-60's, a DX-100, a nice Hammarlund HQ-150, an Eico 720 (with modulator and VFO) ... ahhhh the list goes on! To the left you will see a slide show that shows not only the equipment that I am speaking of but the smiling and intent faces of BA enthusiasts in heaven. If you missed it, you missed a good one!

Attending from afar was Mike N8ECR, Dave KA2J, and Mike W8WEQ. As you watch the slide show from today's meeting you will see a lot of familiar faces. Please feel free to watch the slideshow to the left and if you would like to look at any picture full sized, just click on it. You may use any of the pictures as they are in the public domain.

Following the BA meeting a small group stopped by AES's Cleveland store and a local pizza emporium for a late lunch. It may sound like an old phrase but a good time was had by all!

Just a note from W8ER: AES's Cleveland store is less than 1/2 mile from Coulby Park and they will be open until 3 PM on Saturday.

New Start Time for LEBN 40 Meter CW Net 7093 khz

Beginning Saturday July 3, 2010 and each Saturday thereafter, the LEBN will start-up at 9 AM EST on 7093 khz, plus or minus a few for QRM. Net Control Station listening is frequency-flexible (hi)!

The net remains informal and is, of course, open to all. Speed is not important and the main purpose of the net is tube gear operation.

May 2010 Meeting in Tallmadge Ohio Cancelled

Unfortunately we have had to cancel the May 2010 Boatanchors meeting that is normally held in Tallmadge Ohio.

Boatanchor enthusiasts from all over are horribly upset BUT ...

Bill (KA8WTK), who in past years has done yeoman service in securing the location, will be out of town for all weekends in May. Therefore, we are unable to provide a "resident" at that event.

We want to assure everyone that it will be held again in Tallmadge next May. Hopefully this has not inconvenienced anyone.

There's nothing like a good BA swap in the middle of winter! Looking at the faces on these BA enthusiasts, it sure looks like a good time was had by all. As you can see in the pictures, there was a good representation of BA equipment. Everything from Heathkits to Hammarlunds were represented. Remember that this gear is not priced like the equivalent gear on Ebay. Those that participate want nothing more than to see the BA gear find a good home so you won't find the gouging that sometimes takes place with gear like this. Besides the coffee and doughnuts, it makes for a great day!

There is a link to the rest of the pictures over at the left. Bill K8DBN forwarded them to me for the web page and I hope that you will enjoy them. Remember that you can click on any picture to see the full size photo. It's kind of interesting to do that because you can really zoom in on some of the gear and see the condition that it's in. Although the term "rack" is not normally used to describe a T shirt picture, Buddly WB8BIL's T shirt has a great picture of a rack.

The Lake Erie Boatanchors Group will be holding it's February Meeting on the 13th at the Clague Park fieldhouse in Westlake Ohio. This is the same location that has been used in the past for the early year meeting.

September 2009 Meeting

September 2009 Pictures

The Mentor Police showed up and wanted to put us all in jail for parking on the street. We gave them a couple of Jeff's WA8SAJ's jelly donuts and they smiled and went away. It's surprising what a donut can do!

Rob WA8DDH and Bob W8MNQ came all the way from Port Huron Michigan to join us and it was good seeing them. There were a few boatanchors available for sale, including Ken K8TV's computer speakers. Since he has nearly 60 sets of brand new quality speakers, he brought a few to the BA meeting. It was good to see Russ WB3FAU from Erie Pa. Russ is an old AM guy from the 40 meter 7290 AM days. Maybe the 40 meter band will come back soon and the DX-60's and AT-1's will come out of the closet.

The next Lake Erie Boatanchor meeting will tentatively be held in February 2010 at Clague Park fieldhouse in Westlake Ohio. I will post maps and pictures for that meeting as soon as it gets scheduled.

The next Lake Erie Boatanchor meeting will be held at Bellflower Park, 15 miles east of Cleveland, in Mentor, Ohio

If you will be using a GPS device to navigate, the address of Bellflower Park is 7221 Bellflower Road, Mentor, Ohio, 44060.

It is VERY east to get to -- from I-90, exit at Route 306 and go north about 3 ½ miles to Bellflower Road (there is a traffic light at the intersection). Turn left at Bellflower Road and follow it into the parking area. (click here for photo of parking area) There is only one pavilion, and that is where we will be.

Ron (W8KYD) and his brother have reserved the pavilion in this suburban municipal park. We will have exclusive use of the pavilion, and can be relatively sure we will be the only people using the entire area at this early time of day. The pavilion is new, quite big with lots of picnic tables and can easily accommodate a large number of people. (click here for photo of pavilion) Rain should not be a factor under the pavilion. There is 110 VAC, water & new restrooms. (click here for photo of restrooms) There certainly will be lots of room for vintage gear. However, we will not be able to tailgate. The gear will have to be moved to the pavilion which is very close to the parking lot.
